Magnolia Pictures has released a teaser trailer for writer/director David Gordon Green’s upcoming film Prince Avalanche, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Paul Rudd (This is 40) plays Alvin, a highway road worker who has retreated from the city to work on a project out in the countryside. He is accompanied by his girlfriend’s bizarre brother Lance, played by Emile Hirsch (Milk). The trailer establishes Alvin and Lance as an odd couple pairing, with Alvin being openly irritated by the eccentric Lance, who is prone to outbursts, wearing odd clothing, and reinterpreting the day’s work using mustard.
This is David Gordon Green’s first indie film since 2007’s Snow Angels, and judging by the trailer, Prince looks like another character study, this time with more of a buddy comedy tilt. So far, looks like fun – it seems Green’s learned a thing or two from working on all those recent comedies with college buddy Danny McBride. I certainly wouldn’t mind being stuck in the middle of nowhere with Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch. Prince Avalanche opens August 9th.
